Our Personal Shopper in London reveals Burberry’s Travel Tailoring

Burberry has unveiled a new menswear offer — suits designed for men who travel. Burberry describes it as “a new type of tailoring,” with a focus on the travel consumer who wants to look sharp on the go.

The new suits feature “innovative lightweight construction” (the front panels of the suit), “lightweight shoulder construction,” and “naturally flexible fabrics.”

The trick is in the new “motion canvas” construction: the jacket’s interior structure has been redesigned with less wadding in the chest canvas while the shoulder has been rebuilt to better maintain its structure. The Italian Merino wool fabric also has a unique, “spring like” structure, resulting in more elasticity and less creasing. In short: it’ll retain its shape better in your suitcase, and look even better when you put it on in arrivals.

MARK / GIUSTI launches the “DEEP BLUE SEA” collection for SS2014 at international trade shows in June 2013.

“This year has been one of the fastest growing seasons for MARK/GIUSTI with the brand being nominated for two awards:

“Accessories Brand of the year 2013” by the UK Fashion & Textile Awards 2013 (UKFT) and “Accessories Designer of the Year 2013” Drapers Annual Awards 2013.”

“We have a very strong collection with two times the number of pieces and we believe that this season will be even more successful in reaching out to new markets and International press” says Mark Farhat, Creative Director & founder of MARK/GIUSTI.

The SS2014 “DEEP BLUE SEA” collection is inspired by the magical colors of the Mediterranean Sea that link Morocco to Spain. Morocco has long been famous for its Zellige Mosaic art, which is a terra cotta tile work, covered with enamel in the form of chips set into plaster. It is one of the main characteristics of the Moroccan architecture.

The “DEEP BLUE SEA” collection includes a mix of casual and classical pieces that includes weekend bags, business bags and small accessories with the introduction of a “scarves” category. The colors are rich and vibrant – dominated by various shades of blue, navy and turquoise. The primary leather  for this collection is grained Saffiano calf leather but Farhat, has also introduced several new materials that reflect the sea and the feeling of summer. This includes stingray, eel and a sandy-colored linen/viscose fabric that adds lightness and modernity to the pieces. Moreover, for the first time the materials for the linings of the bags have changed and Farhat is using a new organic hemp/ramie mix, which further emphasizes his dedication to ethics and sustainability.

MARK / GIUSTI’s signature fabric prints, used for all interior lining, continues to be derived from mosaics. Specifically for the new “DEEP BLUE SEA” collection, lining patterns are inspired from the original mosaic decorations found in the Attarine Medersa (Fez, Morrocco) built in XIIII century A.D. The Attarine Medersa, deep in the heart of the medina of Fez, was built by Sultan Abou Said Uthman in the early 1320s.

The zellige mosaics, worked plaster and carved olive wood, are incredibly delicate, and even though it’s packed with decoration, are balanced and subtle. Zellige making is considered an art in itself. This art is handed down from generation to generation by maâlems (master craftsmen). A long training regime starts from childhood in order to master these exceptional skills.

Assiduous attention to detail is critical to the process of creating zellige works and MARK/GIUSTI is proud to align its brand with the ethos of this ancient craftsmanship.
